Organized a Two Day National “Robolution Workshop”, Held on 2nd and 3rd April 2016.

A two day ‘Robolution’ workshop on WLAN Controlled Robot and Home Automation was held in SDM Institute of Technology, Ujire on 2nd - 3rd April, 2016 conducted by TechTronix® in association with Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell (IEDC), SDMIT Ujire. The workshop began with a formal function presided by Dr. K. Suresh, Principal, Dr. Basava T., Head of IEDC and R&D and Prof. Avinash S., Asst. Professor from Dept. of ECE. 60 students from various branches attended the training program in which they had ‘Hands-On’ session on Arduino microcontroller. The participants interfaced various electronic modules on the Arduino board and made their own Remote Controlled Robot, Bluetooth controlled Car, Line Follower Car and Home Automation Systems.

Introduction

  • Last few decades have witnessed a tremendous surge in the application of Automation Technology in Indian Industries (after our economy opened to the global market) as a means to reduce the cost of production as well as to improve the quality of their products so that they become competitive in the international market.
  • Automation requires knowledge in drives and controls, which in turn requires insight in PLC, Sensorics and Mechatronics.
  • Full benefit of automation can only be realized when fundamental principles governing these areas of study are properly understood.
  • There is a growing demand for engineers with exposure/skills in automation technologies both in India and abroad. Hence, an engineering graduation with such a skill would have more/better opportunities for employment.
  • The functioning of the cell involves mechanical, electrical and electronics fields. As a result students of three branches get benefitted by the training.

  5. The Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has set up the VTU – Bosch Rexroth Centre of Competence in Automation Technology at Mysore, India on 26th March, 2007. The center has six state-of-the-art laboratories on Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Sensorics, PLCs, Robotics and Mechatronics. Bosch Rexroth has extended support by granting the licenses, transferring the technical know-how, supplying parts, components and didactic systems. It also extends extensive training support to VTU faculty in their plants in Germany as well as India. Bosch Rexroth has developed a worldwide didactic system for the education on the effective application and efficient use of machines and systems involving the use of its proprietary hardware, courseware and teachware. The joint efforts of VTU and Bosch Rexroth in establishing the training center has fostered an excellent industry-academic partnership and make a notable contribution to enable India gear up for the global challenges in manufacturing sector.
  6. There are 8-10 centers of excellence and competences are set up already in various technical colleges in Karnataka and we are the one of such centers of excellence.
  7. Indwell Institute of Technology: Recently, Institute had entered into MOU with Indwell Institute of Technology, Pune for providing training in automation technologies. They are the experts in the training of students and working professionals in PLC since from decades.

Activities conducted since inception

  • Conducted 2 months courses on hydraulics & pneumatics for the students of final year Mechanical Engineering students in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
  • Conducted one week workshops on “AUTOMATION” in collaboration with Indwell Institute of Technology, Pune for IV year and III Year Mechanical Engineering students during 3rd-8th August 2015 and 24th-31st January 2016 respectively.
  • Conducted 2 months courses on hydraulics & pneumatics for the students of final year Diploma students in 2014 & 2015.
  • Four projects of final year Mechanical and three projects of final year Electrical B.E. were successfully completed in the center.
  • Two batches from Mechanical (22 students) and one batch from Electrical (10 students) trainees are currently undergoing training.
  • Awareness workshops are conducted to various batches of students throughout the week.
  • Organized Refresher courses for the faculties on all domain of automation in the year 2013 and 2014 from Bosch-Rexroth resource persons.
 
 

Four Week AICTE Approved FDP on "Use of ICT in Education for Online and Blended Learning"

The workshop was intended to train the faculties in effective use of online educational methodology, flipped classrooms with pedagogy learning. The workshop had lot of online activities, face to face activities and Team assignments. The online activities of the workshop was commenced on 2nd of May 2016. There were three Face to Face interactive sessions held on 14th and 15thMay; 4th and 5thJune; 25thand 26thJune 2016. Our Remote Center organized this workshop through A-View. The Important topics covered in the workshop are as follows,
  • Creating a course portfolio using wiki
  • Constructing and executing a Think-Pair-Share activity
  • Creating and executing ‘out of class’ and ‘in class’ activity for enhanced learning
  • Creating learning resources
  • Using moodle, wordpress and other similar web pages for sharing/transferring the best knowledge
  • Designing faculty webpages, research pages etc.
  • Creating Open Educational Resources/ Online Educational Repositories
Workshop was open for the faculties of all the streams. 12 faculties were registered for this workshop at our center, where, 8 participants were from outstations. Mr. Sukesh N., Remote Center Coordinator coordinated the workshop.

The said objective will be implemented through UTLP(Unified Technology Learning Platform)embedded practitioner training kit.

The key benefits of the MTLC are:

  1. Project based learning with Learning Framework
  2. Students will learn the embedded programming for various embedded device.
  3. Student will learn how the company will handle the project
  4. After learning the training students will implement their ideal as project using UTLP kit, while implementing project they will follow the company procedure.
  5. The project idea will be proposed to Wipro Company, if its good Wipro resource person will come to our MTL Center and they will give Wipro certificationfor that project group.
  6. Wipro Certified students will be preferred for Embedded based job. 

The UTLP has been designed to provide congregation of multiple technologies in an integrated way. This helps students to go beyond the experiments to develop products and solve real life problems. The 2 major components of platform are OMAP 3530 from Texas Instruments and Spartan 6 FPGA from Xilinx. This platform integrates host of interfaces required for video, audio and control applications. This platform runs on open source software which is also delivered in the form of source code with the platform to the partners.

Inauguration of Wipro Mission 10X Technology Learning Centre

Wipro Mission 10X Technology Learning Centre (MTLC) was inaugurated on 13th September 2014 at SDMIT, Ujire by Dr. Rajendra Joshi, Senior Manager, Wipro Technologies. Mr. Veerappaji, Academic Relationship Manager, Wipro Technologies, Dr. K. Suresh, Principal, and Dr. B. Shridhar Bhatt, placement officer were also present on the occasion. In his address Dr. Joshi stressed upon the importance of three essential attributes of an engineer- problem solving, deep learning and teamwork. He also said that students must be involved in more projects so that they can inculcate these essential attributes and become industry ready. Mr. Veerappaji, briefed about the various facilities provided in the Wipro MTLC trainer boards and also he spoke about the importance and benefits of the MTLC Centre at SDMIT, Ujire. Dr. K. Suresh delivered the Presidential address and spoke about the relevance of training the teachers. He hoped that MTLC would be used for the maximum possible extent to benefit the students.

One day Wipro Mission 10X – UTLP practitioner training program for faculty members of various departments was organized by the department of Electronics and Communication. The main objective of this training program wascentered around how to inculcate team-work, communication and deep learning among students, through projects based on UTLP board. Numerous training sessions have been held on Unified Technology Learning Platform (UTLP) kits, which were conducted for students of various disciplines at Wipro Mission 10X Technology Learning Centre byProf. Madhusudana K., Prof. Naveen Kumar H.N, Prof. Amith K. Infosys Campus connect program is a industry-academia collaboration program launched by Infosys Technologies Ltd, In 2004. The campus connect initiative aims to enhance the educational levels of engineering students. The teaching staff is trained by Infosys through Faculty Enablement Program (FEP). Students undergo foundation program (FP) training through the trained faculty and is very use full for engineering students to enhance their technical skills

Infosys Campus Connect Faculty Enablement Program & Train the Trainer

Faculty Enablement Program (FEP) and Train the Trainer (TTT) are two specific programs, tailor made by Infosys Technologies, for the faculty members of Computer Science and Engineering Departments. FEP is a two-week workshop on core computer subjects and TTT is a three-day workshop on specific technologies. As a part of the Campus Connect initiative, Infosys has also hosted a Campus Connect portal to enable students and faculty to access technology related information and courseware that is relevant to the IT industry.

Foundation Program

Foundation Program (FP) is the training program designed for entry-level students who on completion will be better prepared to work on real-time customer projects.
Objective: The foundation program  is aimed at imparting the necessary knowledge and skills to a fresh entrant to take up the challenges of a project work. The core of the CC program is the Foundation Program (FP) roll-out at the colleges. The courseware represents the Intellectual Property and  experience of Infosys in training   thousands of entry-level engineers from heterogeneous backgrounds and disciplines to deliver world-class projects to global customers.
The purpose of FP courseware is to provide a unique set of teaching aids, consolidated training material to the college faculty to help them make students “industry ready”.  This courseware has been used by Infosys along with train entry level engineers.

  • This is a Central government funded program initiated and monitored by National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), Haryana for the creation of a skilled workforce in the solar PV technology area.
  • The training is open for the candidates with ITI/Diploma qualification.
  • In the course, the trainees are provided with 600 hours of intensive training covering essentials of basic electricity, solar PV systems, installation and maintenance of SPV systems.
  • The assessment and Valedictory function of 1st Batch of Suryamitra Skill Development Training Programme were conducted on 24thand 25th October 2016 respectively.
