The branches of Engineering like Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Environmental and all other engineering fields the makeup of substances is always a key factor which must be known. All engineering fields have unique bonds with the chemistry world.
  • The subject Engineering Chemistry creates foundation for understanding basic concepts of chemistry and its effects on Engineering Materials.
  • Engineering Chemistry also impart knowledge on properties of materials, protecting them from corrosion and selecting right types of Materials used in various fields of Engineering and Industry.
  • The department of chemistry has well qualified, experienced and enthusiastic faculty to teach Engineering Chemistry and motivate students to achieve grand success in VTU examinations.

Engineering Chemistry Lab

  • The department has well equipped Engineering Chemistry laboratory of 1700 Sq. Ft area.
  • The experiments conducting under Engineering Chemistry Lab like determination of hardness, alkalinity and COD of water can be applied for industrial applications like water treatment.
  • Similarly, the experiments like determination of calcium oxide in cement, copper in brass and iron in haematite help the students to understand various principles and techniques in metallurgy.
  • Usage of modern instruments like pH meter, Potentiometer, Colorimeter, Conductometer, etc improve the ability of students to handle and understand the instrumentation aspects.
  • Overall, Engineering Chemistry Lab aims to improve the creativity of students by correlating theory and practical aspects of Chemistry.

Biography
Dr. S. Samshuddin presently working as an Assistant Professor in Department of Chemistry, SDM Institute of Technology Ujire since February 2016. He obtained his MSc degree in Chemistry from Mangalore University in June 2007 and Doctoral degree from Mangalore University in 2013. Immediately after his Post graduation, he worked as a Research Officer at Hikal Ltd for Eight Months. Later he joined as a JRF for NPCIL- Kaiga research Project at Mangalore University for three years. He has vast experience in research in the field of Synthetic Organic Chemistry. He has ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHT Research Papers published in reputed International Journals and one filed Patent. He is also working as an Editor for the Journal “International Journal of Modern Organic Chemistry” published by Modern Scientific Press, USA. He have a research collaboration with universities of various countries include Malaysia, USA, UK and Turkey. He has SEVEN years of PG teaching and One year of UG teaching experience. He worked as a Coordinator for MSc Course in Chemistry at Alva’s College, Moodbidri for THREE Years. Presently he is guiding TWO student for the PhD under VTU, Belagavi.

Biography

Dr. Sowmya B. P. presently working as an Associate Professor in Department of Chemistry, SDM Institute of Technology Ujire since August 2014 . She obtained his MSc degree in Applied Chemistry from Mangalore University in May 2005 and Doctoral degree from Mangalore University in 2009. She worked as a Assistant Professor at PG Department of Chemistry of SDM College, Ujire from August 2009 to July 2014. She has ten years of experience in research in the field of Physical Organic Chemistry and Structural Chemistry. She has been awarded with "Seed Money to Young Scientist for Research", funded by VGST, Govt. of Karnataka. She has completed a Minor Research Project funded by UGC. She has 36 Research Papers published in reputed International Journals. She has Eight years of PG teaching and one year of UG teaching experience.

Swathi Phadke N presently working as an Assistant Professor in Department of Chemistry, SDM Institute of Technology Ujire since February 2013. She obtained her Master Degree from SDM College, Ujire(Mangalore University) in the year 2012. She had worked in industries like Wonder la Holidays, Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore and Atrimed Pharma Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore and as Lab Instructor at Prasanna Engineering College, Belthangady and also as Assistant Teacher at Saraswathi Eng. Medium School, Mundaje prior to joining SDM Institute of Technology. She has 3 years of teaching Experienceerience.

Biography

Dr. Sanjay. S. S., presently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, SDM Institute of Technology Ujire since April 2015. He obtained his Master of Science (M Sc.) degree in Applied Chemistry from Mangalore University in June 2005. He has been awarded with Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree from Mangalore University for the thesis entitled “Studies on New Aspects of Quinone Chemistry” in June 2017. He has 10 years of industrial experience, had worked in R&D departments of pharmaceutical industries like Advinus Therapeutics Pvt Ltd, Alkem Laboratories Ltd and Acebright India Pvt Ltd, prior to joining SDM Institute of Technology. He has got 2 US patents granted under his name for the novel work done towards the synthesis of antimalarial drug Atovaquone and its Prodrug. He has published his work in international journals and also presented papers in national/state level conferences. He has overall experience of 12.5 years in the field of chemistry with 2.5 years of teaching experience in engineering chemistry. He is proactive in the following committees of the institution such as E-learning, affiliation and accreditation committee, SMS-alert committee, Feedback committee, and Admission committee.
