Honalu Belaku – Karnataka GathaVaibhava

On occasion of Kannada Rajyothsava SDMIT, Ujire had organized “Honalu Belaku – Karnataka Gatha Vaibhava” event on 5th November 2016. This event was Composed and Directed by Dr. Basava T.,Head IEDC and R&D. This event was coordinated by Dr. Krishna Prasad P. A., Head Cultural committee.Prof. G. P. Hegde was the Master of Ceremony for the event. Drishyarupakas on Hampivaibhava, Hoysalasamrajya, VeeraVanitheObavva ,Kittura rani Chennamma etc… were enacted during this occasion. Various folk dance forms like HuliVesha, Veeragase, katthivaraseetc were exhibited during the occasion. A mimic of Mysore Dusshera Procession was also among the highlights of the event.


Yakshagaana Taalamaddale

Yakshagaana Taalamaddale on shivabhakthaveeramani was organized by cultural committee and YakshaNinaada Club of sdmit on3rdNovember 2016. Dr. G. P. Hegde, Dept. of Informatiion Science and Engineering, Prof. Prasad, Principal, S.D.M. college of Polytechnic, and Prof. SubramanyaBhat, Dept. of EEE were the Bhagavaths of the event. Prof. Raveesh P. of Civil Engineering Department Mastered the ceremony.


Sharada Pooja and Aayudha Pooja

Sharada Pooja and Aayudha Pooja were celebrated at SDMIT, Ujire by the staffs and students at library and various laboratories respectively. Students and staff sung bhajans on Shaarada Devi on this occasion


Annual Day – 2016 Celebrations

S.D.M. Institute of Technology, Ujire held its Annual Day Celebrations on 29th March 2016. Sri J. ShrinavasaRaju, Chief Executive Officer, UTL Technologies, Bengaluru was the chief guest of the occasion. He addressed our students during the occasion and spoke about trends in technology for next few decades. Various Cultural programmes were performed by the students on the occasion, which was closely supervised by Ms. Rajatha, Librarian and chairperson of Cultural Committee.



Talents Hunt “Anveshana 2016”

A talent hunt program “Anveshana 2016” for 1st year students was organized on 8th September 2014. This program was open for all 1st year students and was allowed to showcase their talents on stage.  Students of 1st  year ‘D’ section won the overall championship of the event.



Onam celebrations

Students of SDMIT celebrated Onam festival on 11th September 2016. This festival was inaugurated by Dr. K. Suresh, Principal.



Independence day

70th Independence Day at SDMIT was celebrated on 15th August 2016. Dr. K. Suresh, Principal hoisted our National Flag in presence of all the staff and students. Later the gathered crowd progressed towards Rathnavarma stadium for combined celebrations of Independence Day by SDM Group of Institutions.



Azadi -70: ‘YaadKarokurubani’

Azadi-70: ‘YaadKarokurubani’ is a Central Government launched programme for the 70th Independence day. To re-instil the spirit of freedom struggle and national movements, a skit competition was organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering in association withCultural Committee of the Institute on 22nd August 2016. The theme for the event was “Independence 1947 and related movements”. The duration of the act was limited to 10 minutes and there was no limit for the number of participants in each team. 2 teams participated in the event. Mr. Veeresh and team of Final year Mechanical Engineering presented “Unity in diversity in quit India movement”. Mr. Tanuj and team of First year Engineering (G Section) presented the life of Lt. Madan Mohan Malaveeya. Dr. Rajatha and Mr.Rajaverma were the judges for the event. Mr. Sukesh N., Assistant Professor, Dr. Girish Kumar, Professor and Head – Mechanical and Dr. Krishnaprasad P.A., Chairman, Cultural Committee coordinated the event.



Swara Pushpanjali – A Tribute to M.S.Subbulakshmi

A music program “SwaraPushpanjali – A Tribute to M. S. Subbulakshmi” on the occasion of 100th Birthday of Late Sri. M.S. Subbulakshmi was organized on 20th September 2016. This event was coordinated by Dr. Rajatha, Librarian and Dr.Vidya k., H.O.D., Dept. of Mathematics. 27 students of our Institution performed in this event. A tribute was paid to musical Maestro by singing various keerthans of Saint Tyagaraja and Saint Purandaradasa. There were around 250 audience for the program.



Technical Talk

A technical talk on “Futuristic Aspects of Advanced Materials” was held at SDMIT, Ujire on September 16, 2016 for Mechanical Engineering students of the college.



Student participation in 13th ISTE Student Annual Convention “E-Pravarthana” 2K16 25th August, 2016

The students of SDM Institute of Technology are participated in “E-Pravarthana” 2K16, 13th ISTE Student Annual Convention, on 25th August, 2016.students were accompanied by the faculties Prof. Basavaraj. Patil, Dept of ISE and Prof. Rashmi K M, dept. of ECE. The program was inaugurated by Prof. Pratapsinh Kakaso Desai, President ISTE, NewDelhi, Dr. C.K Subbaraya, Chairman, ISTE, Karnataka Section, Dr.Mrityunjaya V Latte, Principal, JSSATE, Bangalore, Dr. D Mahesh Kumar, Head, Dept. of E&IE, JSSATE, Bangalore. Prof. Pratapsinh Kakaso Desai guided the participants about the new challenges in education. Dr. C.K Subbaraya addressed the gathered and Dr. Mrityunjaya V Latte presented the Presidential remarks.





12th Karnataka State ISTE Student Convention 12th September, 2015

Theme: Sustainable Developments Through Innovative Technologies for Rural Needs




Technical talk on “Career Awareness in Quality Control and Quality Assurance for Mechanical and Civil Engineers”, 24th February 2015.

The Departments of Mechanical and Civil Engineering jointly organized a technical talk on “Career Awareness in Quality Control and Quality Assurance for Mechanical and Civil Engineers” to final and prefinal year students of Mechanical Engineering on 24th February 2015. Mr. Premjith of Foresee Engineering Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Anis and Mr. Ajmal of Blitz Academy, Kochi were the Resource Persons. The Talk was arranged in association with Placement & Training Division and IEDC- R & D of SDMIT. The talk was followed with a round table discussion of resource persons with Principal, HoDs and Placement Officer for exploring the possibility of providing NDT Training and Certification to Mechanical, Civil and Electrical engineering students.


Constitution day

NSS Unit of SDMIT had organized Constitution day on 26th November 2016. A mass pledge to remain a responsible citizen and to abide by constitution of India was taken by faculty members of SDMIT on this occasion.



Campus clean

NSS Unit of SDMIT had organized a clean campus event for cleaning the areas of college campus, staff quarters, principal quarters, college entrance, college ground, boy’s hostels and girl’s hostels on 12th November 2016.




NSS unit was inaugurated by Dr Krishnamoorthy, Registrar (Evaluation), VTU Belgaum on 10th October 2011. A nice dance play depicting the endangering of tiger was enacted by our students. There was record enrol of 123 E&C students, 85 CS students, 74 IS students, 75 E&E students and 19 mechanical students for NSS.

  1. Student volunteers of NSS unit of SDMIT,Ujire MsKripashree and  Mr Sampath Shetty    attended  Pre republic day parade- selection trial camp and national integration camp held at VTU Belgaum  from 21st to 27th Sept 2011.
  2. On account world cancer day(4/2/2012) a talk “Health awareness about cancer” was arranged. Dr Prabhash Kumar Medical Officer SDM Hospital, Laila was the resource person.
  3. On account of ‘world day of sick” (12-2-2012) left over medicines were collected from students and were given to SDM Hospital Laila.
  4. Mother Language day was observed on 21-2-2012 by organising Quiz and Singing competition.
  5. Scout Day was observed on 22-2-2012 organising Kannada and English debate and drawing and painting competition highlighting the values of Scouts and Guides.
  6. On 8th March 2012 International Women’s  day was observed. Organised kannada and English debate and on spot sketching competitions for our students on themes of women empowerment.
  7. We observed SadhabhavanaDiwas on 17th August 2012. Our students MadhuraPatwardhan of CS Dept and Krishna Ganguly of Mech. Dept sang the patriotic and sadhbhavana songs.
  8. This year we are planning to organise various events on Teachers day, Gandhi Jayanthi, White cane day,UNO day , Human rights day etc. We are planning to organise NSS camp during the December vacation.The following activities as below are planned.
  9. Gandhi Jayanthi on 2ndoct 2012. Campus cleaning by NSS volunteers.
  10. White cane day 15thoct. 2012. Telling the importance eye donation to students.
  11. UNO day 24th 0ct 2012 Quiz competition about UNO.
  12. Human rights day, 10th Nov 2012. Talk about human rights.
  13. NSS camp during vacation.
  14. Adopt a nearby village for development activities.

Health Checkup Camp

On account of World Health Day, Health Checkup Camp was organized by NSS unit of SDMIT Ujire on 07//04/2014. Expert doctors gave health awareness tips. Team of five doctors interacted with students and staff. 73 students, 18 staff members got their health checked.

The SDMIT Sports committee has dynamic members committed to bring out the best in every student. We strive to make our students physically as well as mentally tough, ready to battle the competitive world on every ground.
“A sound mind in a sound body” is a well-known saying. Sports have an extremely positive influence on our personality. It combines exercise with thrill, excitement and skill development. It encourages and develops spirit of sportsmanship which includes sense of discipline, excellent team work, fair playand healthy competition and Leadership qualities.

Activities Executed in 2015-16:

  • Selection of College Teams:
    • Selections were conducted for various Sports at the beginning of the academic year.
    • The Training and regular practice of teams was continuously monitored by the Physical Director and Staff Coordinators.
    • Regular meetings with team were conducted to discuss the training, facility requirement and to boost the team morale.
  • National Sports Day 2015: (29th August 2015)
    National Sports Day in India is celebrated on the August 29. This day marks the             birthday of Dhyan Chand, the hockey player who won gold medals for India in year    1928, 1932 and 1936. The SDMIT sports committee organized a Volley Ball and Tug        of War competition on occasion of National Sports Day.
    The volley Ball competition was held on 30th August 2015. Total of 10 teams         participated in the event. The winners were Ashith Surya team (3rd year) and Runners             were Sohan Shetty and team (4th year).
    The Tug of War was conducted on 5th September 2015. Total 18 teams participated in       the event. The winners were Sohan Shetty team (4th year) and the Runners were    Shreedhar and team (2nd year).


  • Annual Sports Day 2016 (28th March 2016)


The SDMIT Annual Sports Day was organized on 28/03/2016 at Sri Rathnavarma Heggade Stadium. The Annual Sports Day was inaugurated and declared open by Dr. K. Suresh, Principal, SDMIT.
The event started with an excellent march past to the band tune of “SaareJahan Se Accha” by the student teams of all the departments. Every marching team had a social message to give to the audience. It was followed by Flag hoisting and Oath taking ceremony. The athletic events conducted were 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 4 × 100 m relay, Long Jump, Shotput, Tug of War. Athletic events were also held for staff members where active participation was seen.
Inter departmental team games were also conducted which included Cricket, Football, Volley ball, Throw ball, Basketball, Kabbadi, Table Tennis, Shuttle Badminton. The response was excellent with great number of student participants. The event was coordinated by the Sports Committee, SDMIT and was a great success with the support of the entire SDM family.
  • VTU Mangalore Zone and Inter Zone Men’s Kabaddi Tournament (23rd - 27th April 2016)


Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute of Technology, Ujire hosted “VTU Mangalore Zone and Inter Zone Men’s Kabaddi Tournament” from 23rd to 27th April 2016 at the SDMIT campus. The event was inaugurated by Mr. PrashanthRai, Pro Kabaddi Player in the presence of Dr. K. Suresh, Principal, SDMIT.
For the Mangalore Zone 13 teams participated from various colleges. The winner of the Mangalore Zone was Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology, Puttur. The Runners up was bagged by Alva’s Institute of Engineering, Technology and Management, Moodabidri
The Inter Zone had 16 teams participating from the entire state. The winners and runners were Alva’s Institute of Engineering, Technology and Management, Moodabidri and Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology, Puttur respectively. The 3rd place in the tournament was secured by New Horizon college of Engineering, Bangalore.
The medals and trophies to the champion teams were awarded by Dr. B Yashovarma, Secretary, SDME Society at the Prize Distribution function.
Mr. Rajendra Prasad, Physical Director, SDMIT was the convener for the event and it was a grand success with the efforts of Sports Committee and support from entire SDM staff and management.

The Red cross Branch in SDMIT is started 2010 with 50 students as it members. Every year unit is organizing blood donation event as major event and other events like talk on Health and hygiene, Health awareness are also conducted. From 2010 around 750 students voluntarily donated blood.
