About NPTEL Local Chapter
The NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) is a pioneering initiative by the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee) and the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore (IISc.) to provide high-quality video and web course content in engineering and science. NPTEL Open Online Courses offer students nationwide direct access to learning from faculty at these premier institutions. While enrollment and learning through NPTEL courses are completely free of cost, students may opt to obtain a prestigious certificate from the IITs by appearing for a proctored examination, for which a nominal fee is applicable. This online learning platform offers an excellent opportunity for learners to explore subjects of interest in greater depth. To take this initiative forward and to encourage more students across colleges to participate in this initiative, a Local Chapter has been established at SDMIT, Ujire with the approval of the institution’s management.
The NPTEL Local Chapter at SDM Institute of Technology, Ujire aims to enhance learning and support professional growth by integrating premier online learning resources, promoting course enrollments and encouraging continuous upskilling for both students and faculty. The chapter operates under the leadership of a designated faculty member who serves as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC). The SPOC receives regular updates on NPTEL initiatives and disseminates relevant information to students. Furthermore, the SPOC may appoint course mentors who will support learners by encouraging active participation, monitoring timely assignment submissions, and addressing academic queries as needed.
The NPTEL Local Chapter at SDM Institute of Technology, Ujire was established in Jan 2025 strives to strengthen the curriculum by incorporating advanced MOOCs from premier institutes like the IITs and IISc.
