About

The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) was established in 2007. The vision of the department is to create a vibrant learning ecosystem that promotes excellence in ECE through an advanced curriculum, effective teaching–learning methodologies blended with innovation skills, professional values and a strong research culture. The annual intake is 120 undergraduate students.
The department is led by a team of highly qualified and experienced faculty, including 10 PhD holders having expertise spanning across Reconfigurable Microstrip Antennas, Monopole Fractal Antennas, Cryptography and Network Security, MEMS, Control Systems, Signal Processing, Video and Digital Image Processing and Remote Sensing. In addition, 4 faculty members are pursuing their doctoral studies and contribute to a stronger research output and profile of the department. The department is also recognized by Visvesvaraya Technological University as a centre for Research & Development (R&D) since 2016.
Beyond academics, the department emphasizes team spirit, innovation, and leadership qualities, preparing students to excel in diverse roles across industry, academia, and entrepreneurship. Today, many of our alumni hold prominent positions in reputed public and private organizations, R&D establishments, and entrepreneurial ventures, as a testament to the strong academic foundation they received at the department.
The department delivers knowledge through a combination of rigorous coursework, project-based learning, workshops, and industry interactions, ensuring students are industry-ready and research-oriented. Facilities such as the Wipro Mission10X Technology Learning Centre, Cadence VLSI Design Tools, and the Texas Instruments Innovation Centre provide students with cutting-edge platforms to gain hands-on experience and cultivate an innovative mindset.

The graduates of Electronics and Communication Engineering from SDMIT will have the ability to:

  1. Excel in electronics, communication engineering, and related fields through employment in the private sector, public sector, or as entrepreneurs, ensuring a successful professional career.

Program outcomes (POs)

  1. Engineering Knowledge
    Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  2. Problem Analysis
    Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems to reach substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  3. Design/Development of Solutions
    Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health, safety, cultural, societal, and environmental issues.
  4. Conduct Investigations of Complex Problems
    Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis, and interpretation of data, and synthesis of information to provide valid conclusions.
